The episodes of the second season of the anime series Naruto: Shippuden are directed by Hayato Date, and produced by Studio Pierrot and TV Tokyo. They are based on Part II of the Naruto manga series by Masashi Kishimoto.[1] Titled Long-Awaited Reunion (遥かなる再会 Harukanaru Saikai),[2] the season follows Naruto Uzumaki and friends attempting to reason with Sasuke Uchiha. The second season was broadcast on TV Tokyo in Japan, from November 8, 2007 to April 3, 2008.[3][4] The season was later released on DVD in Japan over five discs between April 8 and August 8, 2008 by Aniplex.[2]

On January 2, 2009 Viz Media and Crunchyroll began providing subtitled Naruto: Shippuden episodes.[5] Naruto Shippuden premiered in the United States in Disney XD in late 2009,[6] with these episodes airing between April 2, 2010 and October 27, 2010.[7] The season was collected in five DVD volumes by Viz Media from April 6, 2010 to August 10, 2010.[8][9] It was also compiled in two DVD boxes alongside the first season's last episodes on August 3, 2010 and October 19, 2010.[10][11] In the United Kingdom, Manga Entertainment released it in three volumes from October 10, 2010 to May 16, 2011,[12][13] while it was also part of a DVD box released on March 7, 2011.[14]

The season uses three musical themes for one opening theme and two ending themes. The opening theme for this season is "Distance" by Long Shot Party. The ending themes are "Kimi Monogatari" (キミモノガタリ, "Your Story") by Little by Little, which is used for episodes 31 to 41, and "Mezamero! Yasei" (目覚めろ!野性, "Awaken! Wild") by Matchy with Question?, which is used from episodes 42 to 53.

As Kakashi recovers, Sakura convinces Tsunade to let her meet with Orochimaru at the Tenchi Bridge for ten days. Four days later, Naruto is desperate for another teammate to recruit, before he, Choji and Shikamaru encounter with Sai. 
34 "Formation! New Team Kakashi!"

As Sai leaves, Naruto learns that the Akatsuki will extract Nine-Tailed Fox. The village elders propose Tsunade to keep Naruto safe in the village, but she refuses and promises to protect it after compromising with the Foundation's leader Danzo Shimura who asks Sai to join with Team Kakashi. Tsunade temporarily assigns the retired ANBU member Yamato to replace Kakashi and join with the team that Naruto is upset with Sai. 
35 "An Unnecessary Addition"

Before Yamato, Sai, Naruto and Sakura are assigned to capture Orochimaru and gather information about Sasuke, Sai finds an envelope from the ANBU Root about Danzo's secret orders. Jiraiya informs Tsunade and Yamato that he sealed the fox demon inside Naruto, and reveals a huge scar on his chest. 
36 "The Fake Smile"

Like the First Hokage's Kekkei genkai, Yamato uses the Wood Style Jutsu to create a wooden cage, and informs Naruto, Sakura and Sai that they will get a time out if they do not negotiate. They spend one day at the hot springs. 
37 "Untitled"

At the river, Sakura sees Sai being an artistic talent but does not make titles he ever drew. As Naruto and Sakura recognizes Sai's repulsive personality. That night Yamato uses the Four Pillar House Jutsu for the team to rest and plan to captured the spy at the Tenchi Bridge. 
38 "Simulation"

The next day at the Teuchi Bridge for the simulation, Sakura disguises herself as Sasori and confronts Yamato with Naruto and Sai who explains the truth about his older brother. 
39 "The Tenchi Bridge"

Yamato temporarily disguises himself as Sasori from the emulated photo to meet with Kabuto and Orochimaru, but the plan failed before Yamato, Naruto, Sakura and Sai confront the spies.

Kabuto, Sakura, Yamato and Sai witness Naruto accidentally and angrily using the fox chakra to threaten Orochimaru. 
41 "The Top-Secret Mission Begins"

Naruto destroys the bridge, entering into the three-tailed state and fights with Orochimaru. As Yamato's clone pursue Sai in the forest, Yamato and Sakura see Naruto's fox chakra being cloaked and enveloped into the form of a four-tailed fox.

As Kabuto confronts Sakura and Yamato, Orochimaru fails to stab Naruto with the sword of Kusanagi. 
43 "Sakura's Tears"

Naruto accidentally injures Sakura, before Kabuto heals her arm and Yamato restrains Naruto with Wood Style Jutsu and seals the fox chakra inside Naruto again. 
44 "The Secret of the Battle!"

After Sakura recovers Naruto, Sai gives the letter to Orochimaru about Danzo seeking to destroy the Leaf Village, before leaving with Kabuto to the hideout with Yamato's clone pursuing. Naruto, Sakura and Yamato find Sai's picture book. 
45 "The Consequences of Betrayal"

Naruto, Sakura, Yamato recover and continue to follow Sai, Kabuto and Orochimaru, while his clone pursues them. 
46 "The Unfinished Page"

While resting with Yamato, Naruto and Sakura checks on Sai's book about two brothers, but the pages are unfinished. Meanwhile, Yamato's clone sneaks at the hideout, where Sai meets Sasuke. 
47 "Infiltration: The Den of the Snake!"

Sasuke nearly traps Sai with the Sharingan. After recovering, Sai informs Sasuke about Naruto and Sakura, while Sasuke replies that he will kill Itachi. Orochimaru gives the registered ANBU Black Ops envelope to Kabuto and instructs him to make a bingo book. Yamato turns his clone into a seed that Naruto and Sakura ingests it and imbues their chakra, before heading into the hideout to sneak up that Kabuto locked Sai in a room where he checks a bingo book about wanted fugitives. 
48 "Bonds"

Yamato, Naruto and Sakura confront Sai who tells them that he did not work for Danzo and being a spy against Orochimaru. Yamato reveals that he was one of the ANBU members. Outside the hideout, Naruto informs Sai about that he will bring Sasuke back home. 
49 "Something Important..."
"Taisetsu na mono" (大切なモノ) 		March 6, 2008August 25, 2010
Kabuto attacks Naruto, Sakura and Yamato, but Sai learns more about his bond with his brother like Naruto and Sasuke. They tie up Kabuto and leave Yamato's clone to watch him. The group re-enter the hideout and Naruto and Sai temporarily split up from Sakura and Yamato to find Sasuke. 
50 "The Picture Book's Story"

After Naruto checks around all empty rooms, Sai recalls his memory about him and his brother before leaving to hunt Sasuke alone. Naruto, Sakura and Yamato checks on a bingo book that Sasuke is on the as a assassination list. 
51 "Reunion"

The group learns that Sai attempts to kill Sasuke under Danzo's order. Sasuke provokes Sai before the explosion destroys the hideout. Naruto, Sakura and Yamato arrive outside to reunite with Sai and confront Sasuke. 
52 "The Power of Uchiha"
"Uchiha no chikara" (うちはの力) 		March 20, 2008September 15, 2010
As Sai saves Naruto from Sasuke who injures Yamato with the katana, Kabuto frees himself. Deep within their conscious, Sasuke uses the Sharingan to stop Naruto from using the Nine-Tails' power. Yamato recovers and Sasuke evades the trap. 
53 "Title"
"Taitoru" (題名) 		April 3, 2008October 27, 2010
Orochimaru, Kabuto and Sasuke leave before Naruto, Sakura, Sai and Yamato failed their mission. Back at the Leaf Village, Yamato shows the envelope to Tsunade who is upset about Danzo as a real spy. At the ANBU Root base, Danzo convinces Sai to stay with Team Kakashi in which Sai continues to accept.
