Zvonko Mucunski

Dr. Zvonko Mucunski (born May 25, 1962) is a career diplomat from Macedonia. He holds the post of Ambassador of the Republic of Macedonia to Turkey.^[1]

Early life and education

Mucunski was born in Berovo, Macedonia, where he received his primary and secondary education. He received a Bachelor of Laws (LL.B) at the Faculty of Law Iustinianus Primus, Ss. Cyril and Methodius University, where he also received his MSc in the area of Business Law. He holds a PhD in International Law and International Realations University, with a dissertation on the topic of EU-US Relations.

Professional career

He began his professional career in the Yugoslavian Foreign Service, with his first post being third secretary at the Permanent Mission of Yugoslavia to the United Nations. Following Macedonian independence, he joined the Macedonian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, where he headed the Analytical department. Soon after he was given the task of opening the Macedonian Consulate General in New York, where he served as Acting Consul General from 1995-2000.

In 2000 he returned to Macedonia and was appointed Chief of Cabinet to the then Minister of Foreign Affairs, Srgjan Kerim. He also served in this post to Ministers Ilinka Mitreva and Slobodan Casule.

From 2002-2006 Mucunski served as chargé d'affaires at the embassy of the Republic of Macedonia in Ottawa, Canada.

In 2006 Mucunski was appointed as the President of the Government Commission for Relations with Religious Communities and Groups.^[2]

Between 2009-2013, Zvonko Mucunski was Consul General of the Republic of Macedonia in New York.

Between 2013-2016 he served as Director General for NATO and Political and Security Cooperation at the Macedonian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

As of May 3, 2016 he is the Ambassador of the Republic of Macedonia to Turkey.
