The Ullens School is a non-profit school situated in Khumaltar, Lalitpur, Nepal, Earth, Milky Way,1 km away from the Kathmandu ring road. Ullens School is accessible from any part of Kathmandu by public transport. It was established in 2006. It has classes from kindergarten to grade 10 and IB Diploma too!

Ullens School delivers its curriculum and philosophy based on Bank Street’s Developmental Interactive Approach and Developing Capable Persons in collaboration with Bank Street. Its staff receive education and training from the Bank Street School of Education, New York. Other staff are volunteers from around the world. The patron of Ullens School is the philanthropist Baron Guy Ullens and his wife Myriam Ullens.

School curriculum

The school delivers a curriculum designed to meet the needs of each student through the application of Nepal’s National Curriculum. The curriculum is taught through the Developmental Interactive Approach. English is the medium of instruction.

The primary curriculum includes the core areas of learning and experience: English and Nepali Language and Literacy, Mathematics, Science, Social Studies, Health and Physical Education, Creative and Expressive Arts, Information and Communications Technology and Vocational Education.

Students go out of school to extend their knowledge and experience through educational field trips. This provides a direct first-hand experience in learning as well as providing a stimulus for work in the classroom.

In teaching English a high priority is placed on all aspects of literacy; speaking, listening, reading and writing, spelling and handwriting.

Art, music and drama rooms develop a student’s creativity, and confidence. Ullens School places an emphasis on increasing student’s performance skills.

Each term during Curriculum Night parents are informed of their child’s grade curriculum. At the end of each school year a Curriculum Committee reviews each grade level curriculum in relation to "Best Teaching Practices" used throughout the year and student academic performance. Changes to the curriculum are made accordingly.

With about 550-600 students Ullens school has about 200 staffs, including faculty and all other staffs. There are about 800 people in this school. The school lunch provides Nepali food, including Rice, Dal, some pickle and some fruit, salad or yogurt daily. The school provides a balanced diet breakfast also. The snacks provided by school is changed time to time. School provides foods like, sandwich, burger, pizza, paubhaji and may other food with a juice/ tea / coffee in the afternoon.

IB Programme

Ullens School is the first IB World School in Nepal. It was authorized to implement the IB Diploma Programme by the Switzerland-based International Baccalaureate Organisation (IBO) on 2 June 2009. Only schools authorized by the IBO as IB World Schools can offer any of its three academic programmes. The IB Diploma Programme at Ullens School for the academic session 2009 began on 17 August 2009. The admission for the IB Diploma Programme is open to all students who have completed the tenth class.
