Sandip Bhattacharjee (Hindi: संदीप भट्टाचार्य, Bengali: সন্দীপ ভট্টাচার্য্য ) born on 10 September 1980 is a prominent North Indian (Hindustani) Classical Vocalist of Kirana Gharana. Grade "A" Classical Vocalist at All India Radio and Doordarshan.He was also acknowledged as a Musician by ITC,Sangeet Research Academy,Kolkata .

He is married to Susmita Chakraborty since 26 January 2014.

Early life

Sandip was born in Krishnanagar, a suburb of West Bengal, India, approximately 100 km(62 miles) from Kolkata. From an early age his parents encouraged his musical talent. Sandip received his first lessons from his mother Krishna Bhattacharjee and subsequently from Amrita Dasgupta. A close family friend Dr. Basudeb Mondol recognized his promising musicality and brought him to ITC-Sangeet Research Academy, Kolkata, then Sandip was 16 years old. Sandip started his Talim under the distinguished guidance of Ustad Mashkoor Ali Khan[1] and Ustad Mubarakh Ali Khan, sons and disciple of Sarengi maestro Padmashree Ustad Shakoor Khan. In 2002 Sandip joined ITC-SRA as a residential Scholar[2] and in 2012 became an acknowledged musician at the academy.[3]

Sandip holds a bachelor's degree from Rabindra Bharati University (Kolkata) in classical music.He ranked First Class First. He is also skilled in singing numerous semi-classical forms like Bhajans, Ghazals, Nazrulgeeti and other regional songs as well.

Albums

First was a CD by Sonic Octaves,[4] Mumbai. Then came a CD of Bengali songs by R.P Techvision, Kolkata and third, a CD on Bhajan by Sonic Octaves, Mumbai. He has just released a fourth album of Khayal by Bihan Music.[5]

Radio & Doordarshan (Grade"A")

Gifted with a robust voice, Sandip is today one of the most promising young classical artists of the country, which is borne out by his regular performances across India and abroad (United States, Europe and Bangladesh). A recipient of the Title Surmani from Sur Singar Sansad Mumbai, Sandip also broadcasts regularly over the All India Radio as an “ A “ Grade artist.

He has performed on stage with many renowned musicians, including Ustad Rashid Khan, Ustad Sultan Khan, Vidushi Girija Devi, Pandit Ulhas Kashalkar, Pandit Ajoy Chakraborty, Pandit Shiv kumar Sharma, Pandit Hari Prasad Chourasia, Pandit Rajan Sajan Mishra, Pandit Jasraj, and Ustad Zakir Hussain. He has been honored to share the stage with the Kathak Legend Pt Birju Maharaj at John Kennedy Centre in Washington DC, USA.

His scintillating Taiyari in the Taans and Sargams have been lauded and appreciated by listeners and musicians everywhere. Apart from being a very able performer Sandip is also a well liked teacher of music.[6] He travels regularly to Guwahati, Tinsukia and Digboi where he has a substantial following of students in Indian classical music.[7] Sandip has been a faculty member at AAICM in New York since 2013.[8][9]
