Safiuddin Sarker Academy and College (SSAC) is a co-educational school and college located at Tongi, Gazipur Sadar Upazila, Gazipur District, Bangladesh. It offers 5 years primary education, 5 years high school education and 2 years college education. The language of instruction is Bengali. As of 2014, about 6,000 students are enrolled.[2] There are about 110 teachers on staff.[1]

History

The school, founded by former Member of Parliament Hasan Uddin Sarker, began as "Tongi Pauro Kindergarten" in 1978. In 1984 it was accredited by the Dhaka Education Board as a secondary school serving students through class 10. The first batch of students from the school sat their Secondary School Certificate (SSC) examinations in 1986. In 1994, the school opened a college section.

Campus

SSAC is located on the west side of the Dhaka–Mymensingh Highway, in Tongi, Gazipur Sadar Upazila, Gazipur District.[2]

Curriculum

The national (NCTB) curriculum is followed for Bengali-medium sections. Bangla are compulsory for all the faculties. This curriculum includes lower secondary, secondary and higher secondary school academic subjects. Computer education is available for students of secondary and higher secondary (11 and 12). Students of secondary (9 and 10) and higher secondary (11 and 12) classes elect to one of three major groups: arts/humanities, business studies, and science.

Awards and recognition

The school is securing first position in Primary School Certificate (PSC) Examination, Junior School Certificate (JSC) Examination and Secondary School Certificate (SSC) Examination since last 10 years in Gazipur District. It also marked as top 10 education institution of Dhaka Board in 2005-2006, 2006-2007 academic year. In 2011, it ranked 20th in performance among schools under the Dhaka Education Board.[3]
