Robert Morehead
The Very Reverend Robert Morehead , DD, MA FRSE (1777-1842) was Dean of Edinburgh from 1818 to 1832.[1]
Life
Morehead was born in 1777 near Stirling in central Scotland the son of William Morehead FRSE (1737-1793) and Isabella Lockhart.[2]
He was educated at Balliol College, Oxford, he was ordained in 1802. He held incumbencies in Leith and Edinburgh [3] before his time as Dean; and at Easington, Yorkshire afterwards.
In the 1830s he is listed as living at 26 Hill Street in the centre of Edinburgh's First New Town.[4] The building was demolished to create a small car park.
In 1832 he left Edinburgh and went to Yorkshire where he served as Rector of Easington until death.
He died on 13 December 1842.[5]
Family
He was married to Margaret Wilson. Their children included Charles Morehead FRSE (1807-1882) an authority on tropical diseases.
