Macheke

Macheke located in the province of Mashonaland East, Zimbabwe, located about 105 km south-east of Harare on the main Harare-Mutare road. According to the 1982 Population Census, the town had a population of 1,888. It was named after the Macheke River and means "you have divided". Tobacco and mixed crops is farmed place in the surrounding lands.The town was under Petersen Tengende Snr for a very long time as a councillor. He made many developments in the city during his time of ruling. The city is very small and it is under MUREWA . The city got the old locations which was the 1st location to be settled by the Macheke Founders.,Macheke residents are mostly from Malawi and other parts of ZIMBABWE.The city founders are from Malawi and others from places around it. Macheke is also the hometown of ((Vernon Chidongo)) prominent Zim-Hip Hop Artist and a well known Member of Zimbabwe People First Party led by Joice Mujuru Coordinates: 18°09′S 31°51′E / 18.150°S 31.850°E / -18.150; 31.850
