Freiherr Johann Philipp Anton von und zu Frankenstein (1695–1753) was the Prince-Bishop of Bamberg from 1746 to 1753.

Biography

Johann Philipp Anton von Franckenstein was born in Forchheim on 27 March 1695, the son of Johannes Freiherr von und zu Frankenstein and his wife Maria Margareta Freiin von Eyb.[1]

He was ordained as a priest on 22 September 1736.[2] He was appointed Prince-Bishop of Bamberg on 26 September 1746, with Pope Benedict XIV confirming the appointment on 19 December 1746.[2] He was consecrated as a bishop by Heinrich Joseph von Nitschke, auxiliary bishop of Bamberg on 23 March 1749.[2]

He died in Bamberg on 3 June 1753 and is buried in Michaelsberg Abbey, Bamberg.[1]
