Jimmy Scalia

Jimmy Scalia (born 1960), is a record producer, the official archivist for the singer Bobby Darin's estate, a disc jockey, writer, and documentarian of American popular and rock music. He currently serves as an adviser and consultant to Darin's former manager Stephen Blauner and The Bobby Darin Estate, as well as to Joel Dorn, Buddy Greco and publicist Harriet Wasser. He was the archivist for Kevin Spacey's film, Beyond the Sea, and provided major footage for the film.

Music

Scalia was the writer, producer, and disc jockey for the syndicated 30-show radio series entitled The Magic of Bobby Darin.[1] He also served as a consultant for two previous Darin albums, Swinging the Standards and The Best of Bobby Darin. He has produced a new Darin DVD titled Seeing Is Believing.

He was also consultant and adviser for A&E's Biography portrait of Darin, and on David Evanier's biography of Darin, Roman Candle: The Life of Bobby Darin. He also recently guested on WNET's documentary on Darin, Mack Is Back and on the BBC Radio 2 special on Darin.

Writing

Scalia has written extensively for the publication In-Tune International, including articles in 2002 on Darin in Digital, Keely Smith: Better Than Ever, and on Bobby Darin and Johnny Mercer: The Dynamic Duo.

He has also been an adviser to Jack Behrens for his book, The Big Band Days: A Memoir and Sourcebook and contributed to Images of America The Copacabana by Kristin Baggelaar.

Scalia is a member of the Songwriters Hall of Fame and the Society of Singers.

Jimmy currently lives in New Jersey with his wife, Dina Scalia, and his two sons, Anthony and Jim Scalia.

Discography

The 2002 Dusty Springfield compilation, Heart and Soul featured previously lost tracks that Scalia unearthed and provided.

Scalia has been a producer of two Darin CDs: Aces Back to Back (a CD-DVD combo from Hyena Records) and Songs from Big Sur (Varese-Saraband), for which he wrote the liner notes.

Following upon the events of 9/11, Scalia produced and compiled the Darin CD, Songs for America, honoring the rescue workers who lost their lives on that day.

Former lead singer of The Buckinghams, Dennis Tufano released his live album, Dennis Tufano Live! in 2010 and credited Scalia for his approval and blessings on the project.

Scalia founded and created the production company, Sharkbite Productions in 2011.

In 2012, Scalia produced and released Buddy Greco's newest album, "Absolutely Live" which encompasses the singer's live performances throughout his entire career. The album marked the debut of Scalia's production company, Sharkbite Productions.

The 2012 compilation disc, Country Funk 1969-1975 credited Scalia in the liner notes for his contribution on the album.

Scalia is compiling another Darin CD which will include many unreleased songs.
