Ingrain, Inc. is a multinational digital rock physics laboratory. Co-founded in 2007 by Amos Nur, Ph.D. and Henrique Tono, Ph.D, Ingrain's imaging technology allows it to compute the physical properties and fluid flow characteristics of oil and gas reservoir rocks.

Ingrain's advances in 3D imaging technology provide oil and gas companies with comprehensive and accurate measurements of reservoir rock properties including porosity, absolute permeability, electrical conductivity, elastic properties and relative permeability. Ingrain’s financial backers include Energy Ventures, a leading venture capital firm specializing in upstream technology.[1]

Background

Headquartered in Houston, Texas, Ingrain has digital rock physics labs in Houston, Brazil, Colombia and Abu Dhabi.[2]

In August 2012, Ingrain was awarded a contract by the Colombian government’s National Hydrocarbons Agency (ANH) to digitize and characterize the high-volume of core they have in storage, providing them with critical knowledge of the sedimentary basins of Colombia in order to better assess the hydrocarbon potential. Utilizing their technologies, expertise in reservoir rock analysis, and equipment from Carl Zeiss, Ingrain will characterize thousands of meters of whole core currently being stored at ANH’s National Core Repository (Litoteca Nacional de Colombia). This project will also create a digital database that will make the data readily accessible and preserve important information of the core for future use.

The ANH is the Colombian government’s institution responsible for the promotion and development of the country’s hydrocarbon resources through an integrated management approach that harmonizes the interests of the society, country, and the companies of the sector.[3][4]
