The Geru[1] (Romanian pronunciation: [d͡ʒeru]) is a left tributary of the river Siret in Romania. It discharges into the Siret near Independența. Initially, it was a tributary of the Bârlădel, a secondary branch of the Siret River. After the embankment of the Siret plain, the resectioned course of the Bârladel became the lower reach the Geru, collecting most of the left tributaries of the lower reach of the Siret. Some maps incorrectly extend the name of Bârlădel River to the entire course of the Geru. The Geru flows through the villages Mândrești, Valea Mărului, Cudalbi, Costache Negri, Tudor Vladimirescu, Vameș, Piscu and Independența.
