Frido Frey

Frido Frey (born October 26, 1921; died May 16, 2000[1]) was an American basketball player. A 6'2" forward, he was the first German-born player in the National Basketball Association.[2]

Frey attended New Utrecht High School in Brooklyn, where he served as captain of his basketball team. Art Modell described him as "one of the best high-school basketball players in the city".[3] Frey then played basketball at Long Island University and with the Manhattan Beach Coast Guard[4] before joining the New York Knicks in 1946. He played 23 games for the Knicks during the 1946-47 season and scored 88 points.[5]
