Debatosh Guha (Bengali:দেবতোষ গুহ ) is an Indian Antenna Researcher and a Professor in the Institute of Radio Physics and Electronics,[1]University of Calcutta. He has been closely associated with the Electronics & Electrical Communication Engineering Department of Indian Institute of Technology Kharagpur and served as HAL Chair Professor.

Overview

Debatosh Guha has contributed in the areas of microstrip and dielectric resonator antennas(DRAs). He is pioneer in introducing defected ground structure (DGS) integration technique for antenna applications which is now being explored and used by industries, especially for new generation airborne radar. He has experimented with known and unknown modes in different dielectric resonators and explored possibilities of their uses in realizing wideband and ultra-wideband antennas with improved features. He, in collaboration with a Canadian research group, has developed wireless base station antennas for commercial application.[2]

Education

He received the B. Tech., M. Tech., and Ph. D. degrees in Radio Physics and Electronics from the University of Calcutta in 1987, 1989, and 1994, respectively. He joined the same Institute as an Assistant Professor in 1994 and is currently a full Professor.

Research & Academic Activities

His research interests include new modes and feeds for Dielectric Resonator Antennas (DRAs), mode reconfiguration techniques for hybrid and composite DRAs, Defected Ground Structure (DGS) integration technique for advanced planar antenna and arrays, and compact antennas for wireless applications.

He has been closely involved with IEEE and URSI. He is on the Indian National Committee for COSPAR-URSI-SCOSTEP and in-charge of Commission-B in the Indian committee for URSI. He served IEEE as the chair of IEEE Kolkata Section (2013-2014)[11] and also as the founding Chair of IEEE AP-MTT Kolkata Chapter established in 2004.[12] In 2007, he introduced IEEE Applied Electromagnetics Conference (AEMC) as a major biennial International meeting in India and co-chaired its first three sessions in 2007, 2009, and 2011. In 2010, he established IEEE Indian Antenna Week (IAW) as an annual International Antenna Workshop with fabulous support from the IEEE AP-Society and chaired the first two editions in Mayfair Puri (2010) and Hyatt Regency Kolkata (2011).[13][14][15] He has also been associated with the organisations of several international events including APCAP, EMTS, EUCAP, URSI-GASS, URSI AP-RASC.

He is an Associate Editor of IEEE Transactions on Antennas and Propagation and IEEE Antennas and Wireless Propagation Letters.
