DataXoom is a mobile virtual network operator (MVNO) based in Walnut Creek, California.[1] The company provides mobile broadband network connectivity for tablets, mobile hotspots, and specialty devices used by mid- to large-sized businesses at 3G, 4G, and LTE speeds.[2] The company was co-founded by CEO Chris Hill and CRO Robert Chamberlin.[3] DataXoom operates as an MVNO and uses AT&T,[4] Verizon Wireless,[5] and Sprint[6] networks in the United States.[7]

History

DataXoom was co-founded in 2012 by Chris Hill and Robert Chamberlin in Pleasanton, California as a mobile broadband provider targeting mid- and large-sized businesses.[8] Prior to founding DataXoom, Chamberlin founded and operated True Wireless, Inc., a wireless service provider for enterprises, in 2004.[9]

In 2014, DataXoom partnered with Sprint and AT&T to offer LTE and Evolved High Speed Packet Access (HSPA+) network access to customers.[4][5][6] DataXoom launched in select regions in December 2013 and nationwide in February 2014.[4] In June 2015, DataXoom launched its channel program to meet growing demand for mobile data and open revenue streams for channel partners including IT resellers, Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEM's), and independent software vendors (ISV's).[10][11][12][13]

Products

DataXoom provides mobile data pricing options, including contract-free pay-as-you-go plans, gigabyte plans that pool across all customers, and large terabyte plans that can be customized for specific business needs.[14][15] DataXoom offers supplemental services outside of being a MVNO. These additional features include Mobile Device Management (MDM), wireless hardware and software sourcing, and pre-packing services including asset tags, custom packing and kitting, and demo and loaner options.[16][17] DataXoom provides customers new or refurbished devices, and tablet-and-service bundles, where configuration, warranty, and repair services can be added.[2]

Reception

Will Kelly, a TechRepublic writer and analyst, experimented with DataXoom’s service in 3 different locations in March 2015. Kelly reported speeds consistent with AT&T in the areas he conducted testing. However, Kelly concluded DataXoom may face a challenge in competing against “household” enterprise mobility brands and businesses.[18]

In April 2016, DataXoom was awarded the "Enterprise Mobility - Best Enabling Technology" in ChannelVision's 2016 Visionary Spotlight Awards.[19]
