Ateneo Social Science Research Center at Jesuit Ateneo de Naga University in the Philippines has since 1970 undertaken research projects in the interest of integral human development. It is one of ten members of the Philippine Social Science Council.[1]

History

ASSRC research is covered in the national media and it partners with internationally subsidized studies.[2] A member of the Center is one of two representatives of the Philippines on an international committee to secure the safety of the seas.

After 1981 RSC helped create what became the Center for Community Development (CCD) within the university, which involved students in community development activities – assisting tribal groups, farmers, workers, the youth, and the poor in Naga City.[3] After the creation of CCD, RSC's efforts became heavily focused on social science research. The name Ateneo Social Science Research Center was adopted in 1998.

In 2000 ASSRC assumed the task of training undergraduate students in research.[4][5]

Project range

Most projects undertaken by ASSRC were commissioned by local, national, and international organizations, and fall under the categories: Children and Youth; Women and Gender Issues; Fertility, Family Planning, and Population; Education; Health; Environment; Agriculture; Cooperatives; Housing and Urban Development; Business; Politics and Governance; Program Planning and Evaluation; Bicol Data Set.
