Alfonso Rodríguez was a Spanish mariner, merchant, settler of Brazil and Buenos Aires in the 17th century.[1] He served as Captain in the fort of the Río de la Plata.[2]

Biography

Born in Galicia, Spain, son of Juan de Trovo Rodríguez and Inés de Vasanta.[3] he arrived port of Buenos Aires in the early 1600s from Rio de Janeiro, was devoted to marine commercial and freight activities. In 1629 the Captain Rodríguez married, with Ana de la Trinidad Martínez,[4] daughter of Juan Gil Freytas (possible descendant of Mateo Gil and Francisco de Freytas).[5]

The wife of Alfonso Rodríguez, doña Ana Gil de Freytas Martínez is the direct maternal ancestor of Mayor Miguel Gerónimo de Esparza, and the brothers José, Manuel and Joaquín Canaveris.[6]
