Alex Lissitsa (or Olexij Lissitsa) (Ukrainian: Алекс Ліссітса or Олексій Лисиця), Ph.D. is a leading Ukrainian agribusiness expert, the president of Association of Ukrainian Agribusiness Club.

Biography and Education

Alex Lissitsa was born on April 23, 1974 in the village Til`ne, Chernihiv Oblast, at the time in the Ukrainian SSR of the Soviet Union. He received his Master's Degree in economics from the National Agrarian University of Ukraine in 1996. He continued his education at Humboldt University of Berlin, where he earned a Ph.D. in agriculture.[1] Furthermore, Dr. Alex Lissitsa undertook postdoctoral research at the School of Economics of the University of Queensland and at Iowa State University.

Professional activities

Upon the completion of his Ph.D., Alex Lissitsa has served as a senior researcher at the Leibniz Institute of Agricultural Development in Central and Eastern Europe (IAMO) which is member of the Leibniz Association, in Halle, Germany.

In 2006 he came back to Ukraine after 11 years of education and research in the Western world, accepting an invitation to become a general director of Ukrainian Agrarian Confederation.[2] In 2007 he obtained a position of the president of a newly formed Association of Ukrainian Agribusiness Club, a Kiev-based agricultural lobby.[3]

In 2009-2011 Alex Lissitsa served as a non-executive director of Agroton company, one of the largest Ukrainian agricultural producers.[4][5] He is an advisor to the Minister of Agricultural Policy of Ukraine and the Committee for Agricultural Policy and Land Relations of the Ukrainian Parliament.

Publications

Lissitsa has over 40 scientific works on agrarian economy published in Ukrainian, German, English and Russian languages.[6] As an expert, he is regularly interviewed by both national and global media.[7]
